PASS Train-the-Trainer

The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) present Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) Train-the-Trainer Virtual Certification. This is also valid for PASS Trainer Recertification.

The Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) Trainer Certification Program ensures that community transportation trainers have current expertise in passenger assistance, techniques, sensitivity skills, hands-on wheelchair securement and lift operations, bus evacuation knowledge and skills in order to train drivers to serve persons with disability.

To be trained and certified as a PASS Trainer, trainee must complete two prerequisite online courses before the Virtual PASS Training course:

  • PASS Basic 7.0 (four hour online self-paced course)
  • Techniques for Training PASS (two-hour online course)
  • The trainee then attends a one-day Virtual PASS Trainer zoom course

Upon completion of the Virtual PASS Trainer course, a follow-up training session is scheduled for each participant. This consists of a one-one wheelchair securement and lift-operation proficiency demonstration by the trainee, followed by the PASS Trainer certification examination.

Certified Safety and Security Officer (CSSO)

A commitment to safety has long been a hallmark of community transportation programs. This commitment extends both to the riding public and to the women and men who work in the nation’s community transportation systems. To demonstrate this commitment to safety, CTAA developed the Certified Safety and Security Officer program. This certification includes a CSSO participant handbook and a certification exam at the end of the course. The certification is valid for three years.

Professional Dispatching and Scheduling (PDS) Virtual Certification Course

Effective dispatching can make or break a community transportation organization. In its mission to ensure the effectiveness and viability of community transportation organizations, this two-day virtual training program is designed for demand response operations. The PDS training program provides skills to increase expertise in developing improved communication and working relationships between the reservations, scheduling and dispatching functions. The workshop covers service to people with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act, customer service skills, best practices of the Reservationist, Scheduler and Dispatcher as they work together to build efficient trips and meet customer needs, and the central role of the Dispatcher in any emergency situation.

This certification is valid for three years.
